The 40th anniversary of Andrzej Pągowski’s creative work exhibition

This year, Andrzej Pągow­ski, one of the most pro­mi­nent Polish gra­phic and poster arti­sts, cele­bra­tes the 40th anni­ver­sa­ry of arti­stic ende­avors.

On that occa­sion, we invi­te you for an exhi­bi­tion pre­sen­ting the most impor­tant posters of the master’s out­put.

Born in 1953, he gra­du­ated with honors from the Pro­fes­sor Wal­de­mar Świerzy’s Poster Stu­dio at the Poznan Aca­de­my of Fine Arts (also known as the Sta­te Higher Scho­ol of Visu­al Arts). He is an author of more than 1200 posters, publi­shed in Poland and abro­ad sin­ce 1977. In addi­tion, he is invo­lved in book and press illu­stra­tions, music album covers, sta­ge design and tele­vi­sion sce­ne­ry, film scre­en­plays and music vide­os. He enga­ges in pain­tings. He is a cre­ati­ve direc­tor and owner of the Kre­acja­Pro com­pa­ny. From the incep­tion of his care­er he has been asso­cia­ted with Polish cine­ma, the­atre and music sce­ne. He desi­gned hun­dreds of posters for Polish cine­ma, inc­lu­ding films as essen­tial as “Man of Iron”, most of Kieślowski’s work as well as the cult Sta­ni­sław Bareja’s come­dy “Miś”, and Sta­ni­sław Tym’s “Ryś”.

He col­la­bo­ra­ted with a vast majo­ri­ty of the most pro­mi­nent Polish direc­tors, for instan­ce Andrzej Waj­da, Krzysz­tof Zanus­si and Agniesz­ka Hol­land, just to name a few. Fre­qu­ent reci­pient of awards at Polish and inter­na­tio­nal poster com­pe­ti­tions, inc­lu­ding the Chi­ca­go Inter­na­tio­nal Film Festi­val.

His works are pre­sen­ted in the world’s most famo­us museums, inc­lu­ding the Metro­po­li­tan Museum of Modern Art in New York City and San Fran­ci­sco or the Cen­tre Pom­pi­dou in Paris. The MoMA named the “Wolf’s Smi­le” poster as one of the 100 most essen­tial work of the modern art.

The exhi­bi­tion of selec­ted works from dif­fe­rent sta­ges of his care­er will be accom­pa­nied by a com­pe­ti­tion for gra­phic desi­gners.

The gre­at care­er of Andrzej Pągow­ski was laun­ched by a poster for the play “Mąż i Żona” (“Hus­band and Wife”) by Alek­san­der Fre­dro, direc­ted by Adam Hanusz­kie­wicz and sta­ged in the Natio­nal The­atre. Com­ple­ted in 1977, his first prin­ted work was rewar­ded with the bron­ze medal at the VIII Bien­na­le of Gra­phic Design in Brno. For­ty years later, along with the Master we chal­len­ge gra­phic desi­gners. The sub­ject of the con­test is desi­gning a poster for the same play of Alek­san­der Fre­dro.

The results will be anno­un­ced on March 31 and the win­ner will rece­ive a pri­ze of PLN 1,500, whi­le his work will be exhi­bi­ted in our venue along­si­de the master­work of Andrzej Pągow­ski, star­ting from April 7, the day of an offi­cial ope­ning of the exhi­bi­tion in the pre­sen­ce of the Master him­self.
